If you have any medical background information that may be pertinent to your vision or eye care, it is important to bring it with you to your first appointment along with the new patient form.

Dr. Minesh graduated in 1999 from the University of Calgary with degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering. After working for five years in senior management, he changed career paths and pursued his true passion in Optometry. He graduated from Inter American School of Optometry in 2007 with his wife Dr. Hemel Kutlerywala. He has owned Bower Eye Care since 2007. Dr. Minesh’ special interests include pediatric and geriatric eye care, neuro-ophthalmology, specialty contact lenses, and various diseases of the eye.
Dr. Hemel graduated with Honors in Organic Chemistry in 1999 before becoming interested in Optometry. She then graduated with honors from the Inter American School of Optometry, Puerto Rico. She has worked at Bower Eye Care since 2007. She grew up in India where she met her husband Dr. Minesh and decided to attend optometry school together. They now have a beautiful 5 year old son and newborn and are proud to call Red Deer home. Dr. Hemal has special interests in therapeutic optometry, children’s vision including diagnosis and treatment of “lazy eye”, and diabetic eye disease.
Dr. Kayla Vroom graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Illinois College of Optometry in 2012. She is a member of both the Beta Sigma Kappa honor society and the Tomb and Key Honor society. Dr. Vroom has been working at Bower Eye Care since 2013. She has special interests in ocular disease, contact lenses, and the pediatric population.
Dr. Andrea Kells is a native Albertan born and raised in Red Deer, AB. After graduating from Hunting Hills High School, she was awarded a competitive swimming scholarship at the University of Houston in Texas. She enjoyed a successful career and returned home for competitions such as the Olympic trials.
Upon completion of her undergraduate studies in Kinesiology, she decided to continue her medical studies by pursuing an optometry degree at the University of Houston College of Optometry. After obtaining her O.D., Dr. Kells wished to come back home and provide care to her fellow Albertans.
Even though she completed her studies in the United States, Dr. Kells is fully licensed to practice both in Alberta and Texas. She enjoys working with patients of all ages and feels that it is important to take a holistic approach towards proper eye care. She has strong experience in diabetes, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and cataract care. Since her return to Alberta, she has also taken a special interest in dry eye management.
In her spare time, Dr. Kells enjoys working out through Cross Fit, spin classes, and swimming. She also likes to take advantage of exploring the outdoors and loves to learn about new hiking trails around Canmore and Banff.
